International Student Insurance Plans for Students in Finland

Finland is quickly becoming a top destination for many international students, offering very attractive benefits that other countries cannot provide. For this reason, Finland has seen rapid growth in their international student numbers over the last 5 years, and it is increasingly becoming a popular destination for students from all corners of the globe.

But what does Finland actually offer students that is so attractive? Not only is it a country of extreme striking beauty, but it is one of the last remaining countries in Europe that still offers a totally free education to international students coming from EU/EEA countries. Starting in autumn of 2017, however, non-EU/EEA students do have to pay tuition fees. This will result in:

  • Minimum tuition for English-taught degree: 1,500 EUR/year
  • Average tuition fees English-taught: 10,000 – 16,000 EUR/year
  • Finnish or Swedish-taught degrees: free of charge
  • Highest tuition – University of Helsinki: 10,000 – 25,000 EUR/year
  • One of the lowest tuition – University of Lappeenranta: average of 10,000 EUR/year

This is enforced when you apply for your visa, and international student insurance has been providing such coverage since 2007, when the original regulations were announced.
