Some universities in Japan also have their own health insurance coverage, so you will want to check with your school about those plans. As the national healthcare coverage has exclusions, and only pays 70%, it is recommended that international students purchase private insurance plans to cover private medical care, repatriation, evacuation, trip interruption, etc… these would not be covered by your national healthcare plan.
