However, as an international student who is planning to study or visit Italy, the two main visas that you would be applying for both require proof of international health and travel insurance coverage. Most likely you will be applying for a Schengen Visa (for travel up to 90 days in length) or for a National Visa (which will cover any trips more than 90 days).

If you are covered by your school's insurance plan, you will need to show a letter from them detailing the coverage that you have with them as proof of coverage during your time abroad in Italy.

For all others, you will need to purchase your own private health and travel insurance coverage that provides you with international student health insurance coverage during your time in Italy.

Confirmation Letter
Your confirmation letter from your school or insurance company needs to state coverage dates, amount of coverage for medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation and hospital stays incurred in Italy during stay.
